Meet Jimmy Gathage, Director of Engineering at Tala! Jimmy provides strategic direction in technology matters and collaborates with various functions in the organization to solve problems. Most of the time, this involves bringing to life ideas by building mission-critical technology solutions with teams that execute this great work.
What’s your favorite part about your job?
I have a free hand and agency to solve the challenges and problems I face every day.
What impact are you making at Tala?
At Tala, we’re taking on immense problems. I’ve streamlined the Kenya engineering team to be more effective and productive at solving them.
How did you get into engineering?
I got my start in engineering 15 years ago through an MIT bootcamp.
Where are you from, and where do you live?
I was brought up in a town called Nakuru. Now I live and work in Nairobi, Kenya.
What advice do you have for someone trying to get into engineering at a mission-driven company?
Cultivate a problem-solving mindset; look at where the biggest challenges are and strive to solve them.
