Why we exist

Back in 2011, Tala saw a challenge and an opportunity: billions of people around the world lacked access to traditional financial services, not because they didn’t need them, but because the existing systems weren’t built to include them. Driven by necessity, Tala set out to change that.

What we do

Tala combines proprietary risk intelligence — built on a decade of lending data across emerging markets — with an expanding network of capital and distribution partners to power credit access at scale. Our AI-native underwriting engine was built from inception on thin-file borrowers in informal economies, not retrofitted from legacy frameworks.

How it's going

To date, Tala has deployed more than $8 billion in capital to more than 14 million customers across Africa, Latin America, and Asia — building the definitive behavioral dataset on thin-file borrowers in emerging markets.

Where we’re going

The most powerful way to advance our mission isn’t to keep Tala’s credit intelligence locked inside our own app. It’s to open it — so that partners, platforms, and capital providers can use it to reach people we could never reach alone. That’s how we get from 14 million customers to the hundreds of millions who need what we’ve built. Tala is now converting a decade of data, models, and customer relationships into shared infrastructure that partners and capital providers can build on.
