Q&A with Maggie Wilkens, Tala’s Senior User Acquisition Manger

Where are you from?

Seattle, WA

What do you do at Tala?

I’m a Senior User Acquisition Manager on the Performance Marketing team so I help both online and offline initiatives in bringing new users to Tala.

Did you always know you wanted to work in Marketing?

I didn’t know marketing would be my career path but studying sociology and politics got me very interested in people: what we do, why we do it, and how we do it. I actually started in community organizing and advocacy with an emphasis in social justice and I’m happy to be back at a place that’s oriented around social change.

Why did you decide to join Tala?

I joined Tala after several years in mobile gaming and I’m so glad I made the switch. Tala’s focus roots my daily work in something meaningful. I’m finding it so important at this moment in history – to feel connected and invested in my company’s purpose. It’s fulfilling knowing we’re making a real impact in people’s lives during a global pandemic.

What’s your favorite part about your job?

I get to work with people and teams all over the world and it’s invigorating to catch up with my coworkers after the weekend. I love learning how different cultures approach the regularities of life, whether it’s grocery shopping, celebrating the New Year, or having dinner at their mom’s house.

What inspires you to do your job every day?

Tala is such a unique company in the fintech space, we have the type of marketing and product challenges that I’m proud to call ours. How do we help more people? Can we do it faster? More efficiently? We’re changing the lives of individuals and collectively, changing the global economy for the better.
