In 2021 we made huge leaps forward for our customers and company, from evolving our credit product to launching new tools to help customers grow to raising $145 million in Series E funding.
Here’s a look back at the year’s biggest highlights.
We raised $145 million in Series E funding.
Our new round was led by Upstart with participation from the Stellar Development Foundation – two visionary organizations that share our commitment to financial inclusion. We’re already putting our new funding to work building the largest financial platform for the global underbanked – and scaling the team needed to deliver our ambitious vision.
We launched inventive new products to help customers grow.
We launched a first-of-its-kind lending product that allows customers to choose their own repayment date to better match their income flows. We began testing a new Tala account experience that offers customers ways to save and manage their money while building their credit with Tala. We tested loans with larger and longer terms to better support customers who are ready to leverage credit for bigger aspirations. We’ve added new models, new payment offers, new marketing channels, new frameworks… the list goes on.
We sealed a partnership with Visa to drive crypto adoption in emerging markets.
The partnership, along with additional collaboration from Circle and Stellar, represents a massive opportunity to deliver on the promise of the crypto economy and bring fair financial services to people who need them most.
We were named one of Forbes’ Top 50 Fintech companies in the world.
Tala was also named one of CNBC’s Disruptor 50 companies in 2021 and highlighted in TechCrunch, Forbes and more. See more at Tala.co/press.
We brought on key senior leaders and 132 new team members.
Kelly Uphoff joined as our new CTO in late September to help take Tala’s technology to a new level. Kelly previously served as VP of Data Science and Engineering at Netflix where she spent 10 years bridging the worlds of product, content and marketing through data and technology. We also welcomed SVP Engineering Jason Raneses; SVP Operations, Ishan Gupta; and VP Performance Marketing Julia Randhawa to Team Tala. We’re currently hiring across our global org – check out our open roles and join our mission-driven team!
Thank you to the entire Tala community for choosing Tala as your financial partner and for your belief in our mission. We can’t wait to show you what’s in store for 2022.
